SYMPOSIUM OBJECTIVE

The participant will acquire and improve techniques to have a compassionate yet honest communication with patients and family members about traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. The participant will be able to convey unfamiliar, intimidating, unpleasant, frightening information accurately and honestly with sensitivity and clarity so that patients and families can understand and accept reality while maintaining hope.

PRESENTERS FORMAT

A multidisciplinary panel of experts will address some of the questions patients and families often ask during provider-patient/family discussions regarding neurotrauma topics. Experts will explain pathophysiology, diagnosis, prognosis, management, complications, alternatives, etc. to emotionally vulnerable people who although welcome information, yet they frequently resist communication during extremely stressful times.
